Some seo experts say that links from forums are no longer helpful for seo promotion. By showing this case study we would like to prove the opposite 🙂
Under certain circumstances and with the correct approach forum links continue to work perfectly.
We were approached by a client from the Global Fintech niche with specific keywords, 4 years old domain and a small budget (yes, it's possible to promote a site for 200-300 dollars per month) . No additional SEO work has been done since the beginning of our cooperation.
While analyzing the link profile of the client’s website and its competitors, we found a few specific keywords for which there is no great competition at the top of the search results. But at the same time they could bring traffic to the client’s site. Since the more “classic” keywords were already taken up by more big-name players in the top, we decided to try to move to the top for specific keywords.
With a small budget and niche specificity, we decided to try quantity over quality. We started to gain linking from forums because we could get 40-50 links per month. For the same money we could get 1-2 guest posts. For the keywords we were interested in, our competitors did not have many hard-to-get links. Of course, there is always a risk of hidden PBNs. But it didn’t seem to be the case.
Since the site had 0 links before we started the first two months we placed only naked links to the main page of the site. Exceptions could be such anchors as here, site, click, etc.
Before executing our link-building strategy, we needed to establish clear guidelines to ensure that our efforts would be both effective and aligned with our goals.
After most of our links were indexed, we changed the focus from the main page to other pages and started using commercial keywords. About three months later, the site started creeping up, getting its first traffic and ranking in the top 10 for some of our chosen keywords.
About three months later, the site started creeping up, getting its first traffic and ranking in the top 10 for some of our chosen keywords.
The details of our anchor text strategy are as follows:
Growth in the number of organic keywords, which began one and a half to two months after linkbuilding was started
Growth in the number of keywords and referring domains
Growth of organic traffic and its value in the link building process
We considered the upward movement to be an indicator of the success of our strategy, and therefore our specialists continued to systematically post links on forums in the amount of 40-50 per month. In addition, we recommend focusing on 3-4 key pages, using 50-60% of commercial anchors and about 40% of pure URLs and branded anchors.
As our work has begun to bear fruit we are hoping for a budget review from the client. This will allow us to test some of our hypotheses and share the results with you!
